Oh I've been thinking of getting that book, but haven't yet because I have so many bird books already and do I really need another. I guess, after reading this, the answer is yes 😉

I’m new to bird books, honestly, so I can’t say where it sits in the canon! But I was delighted by this one, more than I imagined I would be!

Remember that chonky guy that perched outside our window? He hung out for about a week, and we named him Pidgeona Regiano in honor of italian brain rot

I think he would approve. I think wood pigeons sing opera in the shower

I went to the launch, it was very wholesome: https://substack.com/@rosiewhinray/note/c-149423386

Ah! I should've gone. Would've compromised my reviewer's neutrality, I suppose

LOL it's NZ, there's no neutrality. It's one big flat

Great review - and the book is readily available.

It will join Ray Ching's The Huia & Our Tears and New Zealand Birds Field-Studies on my bedside table - a reminder of what we can so easily lose.

Yes we fiercely love our birds - and our bird artists.
