Dan! Congrats on working through a PhD program - what a task, and how amazing it will feel once it's accomplished. To say that I love your description of what you're creating here as letters is an understatement. I believe that the art of communicating via handwritten letter is a lost art that would make the world a kinder place if more of us engaged in it. A nod to this lost art as a way to bring two communities of the World together is heartwarming and so needed. I'm glad you're here.
Thanks, Tim! That means a lot! I love letters, man. Have boxes of them from younger years, when my friends & I figured ourselves great gonzo bohemians. And then we got older and had kids and moved our lives online and they stopped. Like the line about the last time you pick up your child, you won't know it's the last time? But I think the aesthetic, the voice, can live on. Tricky in an online space to be continually talking in two directions! But this is the joy, for me. And you're right--in some form, that conversation is what we need!
